Eric Adams is ready for adventure

  • United States: Eric Adams is elected mayor of New York.

Eric Adams succeeds, this Saturday, January 1, Bill de Blasio as mayor of New York.  This child from underprivileged neighborhoods will have to revive a city struck by the Covid-19 pandemic and undermined by growing crime.

Eric Adams, who has lived in miserable and poor neighborhoods, will take the lead in promoting and reviving a city ravaged by the COVID-19 pandemic and littered with growing crime.  This child we are talking about now is not the one of yesterday, he succeeds this Saturday, January 1 to Bill de blasio as mayor of New York.  It is a heavy responsibility which weighs on his shoulders and he already knew that it would not be easy to accomplish.

Eric Adams, African-American, former police officer and anti-racist trade unionist, takes the reins this Saturday, January 1

Eric Adams is above all an African-African, former police officer and a great anti-racist trade unionist who fights so that there is no injustice and racism which does not stop growing.  This Saturday 1st, he takes the reins of the economic and cultural capital of the Eastern United States.  Winner in November of the competitor of the Republican Party Curtis Sliwa, at 61 years old, he became the second black mayor in the history of New York, after David Dinkins (1990-1993).

A city hard hit by the pandemic

Indeed, this former police officer will absolutely have to follow in the footsteps and work of his predecessor Bill de Blasio, who, despite his unpopularity and his remoteness from the populations, piloted the city of more than eight million inhabitants in the turmoil of the pandemic.  which brought her to her knees (over 35,000 dead), which is a huge finding.  Anxious to show his attachment to tourism, it is from Times Square - with an audience limited to 15,000 people - that he is to be sworn in shortly after the festivities marking the start of the new year.

In June, during the Democratic primaries which opposed him to the progressive candidate Maya Wiley, he had shown himself as a strong leader, defender of the middle and popular classes.  The ex-policeman also vowed to be tough on crime - on the rise, but still far from the heights of the 1990s.

Truth be told, this African-American man is going to try to do his best to provide increased security to the people of this city in order to protect them from criminals.  In June, during the Democratic primaries which opposed him to the progressive candidate Maya Wiley, he had shown himself as a strong leader, defender of the middle and popular classes.  His love and dedication make him a man appreciated in the eyes of others.

   Budget of 98 billion

This should weigh in its management of the largest municipal budget in the United States, 98.7 billion dollars (85.3 billion euros) for the fiscal year 2021-2022, devoted in part to the exit from the health crisis.  Eric Adams will also control the country's largest police force (NYPD, 36,000 employees).  He entrusted its management to an African-American, Keechant Sewell, the first woman to hold this post.  He will also oversee the huge public education system, strained by inequality and the Covid-19.

In addition to the end of the pandemic, Eric Adams will have to manage many sensitive issues: return to normal in Manhattan where thousands of businesses are closed and office towers remain half empty, glaring social inequalities, unsanitary housing, deplorable infrastructure.  state, bad weather ... Not to mention the expected closure of Rikers Island, the terrible overcrowded, ultra-violent and unsanitary prison.

His trip was a huge success.  Before taking the oath to fill this important post, he was a child living in poverty.  He had a difficult life before entering the police force in the mid-1980s at age 25 and spent 22 years there until the rank of captain.  His attachment to human rights enabled him to found a union which aims to fight against racism and discrimination.  He was alternately Senator of the State of New York and President of the Brooklyn district, stepping stone to New York City Hall.  In short, this man embodies the good and he could save the lives of millions of people.
