migrants want to reach the United States through Mexico.

Mexico is in shock in the face of a migratory wave.

The migrants who fled their country because of the wars and the lack of work, arrive in Mexico, in the south of Provence. Their main objective is to join the United States at any cost. It turns out that Mexico, faced with this problem, is unable to cope with lack of preparation and resources.

Behind a water tank, two young people wash themselves with the means at hand. Take a picture of it! Wensley laughs as he gestures to his moss covered brother, Kervin. The sponge and soap are wisely stored in a plastic bag: nothing should be spoiled. Wensley and Kervin, 19 and 17, are Haitians.

In fact, the migrants mentioned in this article arrived in Mexico City with a simple “caravan” after nearly 350 migrants. They are fighting to win the United States, a country that some believe could offer them a life of happiness and bliss. In Mexico, where they are installed, they nevertheless found refuge in the old Pilgrim House, under a marquee or in tents, a bus parking and sports facilities, north of the capital.

We are served three meals a day. In Tapachula, conditions were much harsher, says Kervin, referring to the border town with Guatemala, which handles most asylum claims.

It shows how hungry these people are and did not choose this risky path by chance, but it is because they have experienced injustices and abuse and this is the case with Marvin, 27 years old, who lives with his wife Lesly and children. in a miserable tent.

: we fled delinquency in Guatemala.

We travel by caravan to avoid the dangers of criminal groups and even the police. The hardest part of the trip is hunger "

Mexico must do something about this unprecedented migration crisis.

Indeed, the year 2021 is undoubtedly a remarkable year for the unmanageable migratory flow. Mexico, which is not yet ready to take this project seriously, even if, compared to the United States, it is it that processes the most asylum applications. This year, 123,187 people applied for asylum, against 70,341 in 2019 (and 41,002 in 2020), according to the National Commission for Refugee Assistance (Comar).

For Ana Mercedes Saiz, director of the Sans Frontières association, the Comar has few facilities to process asylum requests, the homes are unsuitable. She only has 40 million pesos, or 1.5 million euros.

And the migration crisis becomes humanitarian: to avoid cartels and the police, migrants take risks. This leads to disasters like the accident of December 9: a truck illegally transporting 150 migrants on a dangerous road killed 54 of them, crashing into a wall in the south of the country.
