I lost my iPhone security code, what should I do?

Forgot your iPhone or iPad passcode? Do not panic, it is possible to find it.

Putting a code on your smartphone or tablet makes it secure. The problem is the memory lapse! After several unsuccessful attempts, your device will deactivate for an increasingly long period (5 minutes, 15 minutes then 1 hour). All is not lost: it is possible to reset it, provided you know your Apple ID and password (those used to download applications).

 • How to find your code?

Plug your tablet or phone into your computer's USB port.

Turn off your device by holding down the on/off button and the Home button until the apple appears. Then let go of the on/off button while holding down the Home button.

Restore mode (called DFU) appears on the screen. If your device does not have a Home button, briefly press the volume up button and then the down button. Then press and hold the on/off button.

The computer shows the phone's name in the "Finder" folder, on macOS Catalina, or in iTunes with older macOS, or on a PC. It then offers a choice of an Update or a Restoration of the tablet.

Choose Update. Once complete, your iPad will restart and then ask you to create a new passcode and confirm it, then attempt to recover the data.
